Sperling Vineyards Vision Ruby Pet Nat 2020
Sperling Vineyards Organic Ruby Pet Nat 2020 is a sparkling red wine made from the Okanagan's Valley OG grape, Maréchal Foch, much of which was pulled up in the 80s and 90s in favour of more common varietals, but some plantings remain. It displays jammy black cherry and black plum on the nose, some stewed with a note of stem and eucalyptus. It's got zippy effervescence, as you'd expect from a pet-nat, but in this instance, it's distracting from the overall profile. Its flavours are weighted to the herbal side, specifically capsicum; there's not much fruit. The finish reads stemmy with high acidity. Tasted August 2021.
