Road 13 Syrah 2018
Remember the mid-summer forest fires in 2018? Well, this Syrah does! The smoke from those fires blocked much of the mid-July sunlight, slowing the ripening. As a result, this wine has lower alcohol levels yet maintains ripe fruit flavour and balanced acidity. The rugged rocky ground on the Golden Mile Bench makes the vines struggle - producing more flavourful wines. The vineyards on the Black Sage Bench are rich with mineral deposits from thousands of years of glacial outwash - offering fertile ground for grape growing. Road 13 Syrah is a robust and full-bodied offering, with ripe black cherry aromas that integrates nicely with smokey nuances. This wine is aged 18 months in French oak barrels (30% new), giving an elegant and lingering finish that balances lush fruit and subtle spice. Tasted October 2021.
