Osoyoos Larose Le Grand Vin 2018
Osoyoos Larose Le Grand Vin 2018 is a Merlot-dominant Bordeaux-style blend from an Okanagan icon, Osoyoos Larose. Le Grand Vin is one that can cellar up to a decade, though I chose to open and savour it a mere five years into its life. And savour is, indeed, the word it can hang its hat on. Tobacco and singed caramel aromas marry with notes of stewed dark berries and burnt underbrush. On the palate, the tannins are high and plush, while the acidity does a decent job of extending the mouthfeel. This vintage, encompassing 64.9% Merlot, 14.2% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12.7% Cabernet Franc, 5.2% Petit Verdot, and 3% Malbec, isn't overly showy but is big and robust, with a lengthy dusty and grippy finish. Tasted July 2023.
Process: 12 month in 60% new French oak, 40% one-year-old French oak.
