Kanonkop Pinotage 2019
Made from grapes that grow on bush vines, ranging in age from 32 to 66 years old, this 100% Pinotage hails from the small Wine of Origin (home to about 25 wineries), Simonsberg-Stellenbosch, located within the Stellenbosch district of South Africa. Kanonkop has gone to great lengths to hang its hat on sustainability. All Kanonkop wine is certified by Sustainable Wine South Africa (SWSA), while 50% of the estate's daily power comes from its solar power generation project, completed in 2018. The 2019 Pinotage exudes blackcurrant, blackberry, dark cherry, and cigar box aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with sultry tannins and bright acidity. Vibrant layers of fruit mingle with toasted baking spices through an elegant finish. Tasted January 2023.
Process: Matured for 16 months in 80% new and 20% second fill 225L French Nevers oak barrels.
