il fauno di Arcanum 2019

Covert Farms Family Estate Rosé wine
It’s been nearly three years since I last tasted this wine. In early 2020, I tasted a nicely evolved 2013 vintage. And now, and a more youthful bottle from 2019. In the $45 - $60 range (depending on where you live), this IGT Super Tuscan is an excellent example of buy now, drink now, then buy again and hold— up to a decade if you have the will. Il Fauno is a Bordeaux-style blend comprising 43% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Franc, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Petit Verdot. Earth aromas come close to overshadowing the fruit upon the first whiff— nutmeg and mint. Black cherries, black plums and licorice quickly enter the scene, with hints of balsamic and white pepper rounding out the first act. The palate highlights soft tannins and bountiful layers of richness with depth and poise through the finish. Tasted September 2022.
Process: Aged 10-12 months in French oak.
