De Grendel Amandelboord Pinotage 2020
De Grendel Amandelboord Pinotage 2020 is an ode to the grandfather of Sir De Villiers Graaff, the fourth baronet of his family to take over the esteemed South African producer. Graaff had fond memories of the nearby almond orchard in Durbanville, where he would go horse riding with his grandfather. Located on the foothills of the Tygerberg mountain, a mere 20-minute drive from Cape Town, it is one of the closest wine estates to the city. The deeply coloured wine has typical Pinotage aromas of cherries and black plum with subtle liquorice and smokiness. On the palate, the tannins contribute to a structured mouthfeel full of succulent dark fruit flavours leading to a soft finish. Tasted January 2023.
Process: 12 months in a combination of French and American Oak of which 12% was new oak.
