Culmina Hypothesis 2016

It took a few hours for this 2016 Bordeaux-style blend to open up. When it did, a little bit of everything started revealing itself. The aromas are ample, from black cherry and ripe plum to sweet tobacco and sage leaf. Culmina Hypothesis 2016 includes 42% Cabernet Sauvignon and 33% Merlot, only a 9% difference which makes itself known. Its tannins are boisterous and bold yet don't overtake the fruit profile. 19% Cab Franc, 5% Malbec, and 1% Petit Verdot round out the blend. Notes of earth and coffee grounds show themselves through the mid-palate, still balancing some fruit. The finish is lengthy, highlighting the multi-layered structure. Tasted October 2021.
Process: Matured for 16 months in a combination of new (33%), 1-year-old (37%), and 2-year-old (30%) French oak barrels.
