I’m a big fan of the weird and wonderful. Don’t get me wrong; traditionalism has its time and place. But when the occasion calls for it, going against the grain can pay off big time, like with this Covert Farms Family Estate Sparkling Zinfandel 2020. I was hooked with this ancestral method gem upon the first sip. Pink grapefruit, rhubarb, and black tea aromas are brim brilliantly from the glass. A mineral slate character needles in the background. The flavours are dry, with zesty citrus and lively acidity. A candied quality integrates itself through the extended finish. Tasted October 2021.
