Cambria Katherine’s Vineyard Chardonnay 2019
Katherine’s Vineyard, named for Katie Jackson (proprietor) in 1986, sits on the Santa Maria Bench of California’s coastal Santa Barbara County. Using 80% old vine Clone 4, with additional Wente 76 and 96 clones, winemaker Jill Russell shows a deft hand in crafting this beautifully balanced Chardonnay. Fresh citrus introduces the aromas, with touches of white peach, apple, and baked stone fruit. Citrus blossom weaves beautifully through notes of vanilla, butter, and lightly smoked cedar — a lengthy finish with a waft of cellar dusk peeking through on the end. Tasted October 2022.
Process: Whole cluster pressed; 75% barrel fermented; 25% stainless steel fermented. 75% Malolactic fermentation. Aged sur lie for 9 months in 20% new French oak.
