Broc Cellars Love Red 2021
The Broc Cellars Love Red 2021 is a prime example of a red wine that needs chilling. Nay - not need - deserves! Treat this bottle right; pop it into your choice cooling receptacle before opening because: It. Will. Shine! Chilling aside, this is a fun California North Coast blend - somewhat of a puzzle regarding its composition (I can only imagine the winemaker’s scribbled notes during blending trials). Majority Carignan (51%) fermented mostly carbonic. Other party-goers include Syrah (12%), Valdiguié (12%), Mourvèdre (5%), Zinfandel (3%) and Petite Sirah (2%). Then finally, the remaining 2% is Grenache Noir, fermented carbonic. Cherry aromas burst from the glass with a myriad of wild red berries. Some green stem and herb show their faces periodically, not too showy. A sprinkling of grated dark chocolate makes an appearance as well. The body is light (see above re: chilling - pop it in the first 10 minutes before opening) for this bright and brambly wine to shine. Some decent tannin structure makes this an interesting one to pair with a hearty grain salad loaded with roasted veg. Tasted October 2022.
Process: Aged in a combination of mostly neutral French oak barrels and concrete tanks.
