Amalaya Malbec 2020
Growing at some of the earth's highest vineyards, this Malbec (with 10% Tannat and 5% Petit Verdot) is a poster wine for high terroir. At 5,900 feet above sea level, the soils of the Calchaquí Valley are rocky and sandy, with a dry climate and minimal rainfall — pushing the vines to struggle for their nutrients. While the label screams blue, the wine screams red — filling the glass with strawberry, raspberry and ripe cherry aromas. A touch of black pepper hits the palate with a dusty minerality offering light tannins and a hint of sweet vanilla on the finish. Tasted August 2022.
Process: 25% aged 8 months in French Oak barrels.
