1 Mill Road Black Pine Pinot Noir 2022
1 Mill Road Black Pine Pinot Noir 2022 captures a fresher, more flexible side of the Naramata Bench, shaped as much by the cool growing season as by the dry, granite-heavy soils of this 4-acre single vineyard site. Aromas of sour cherry, cranberry, and wild strawberry lead the wine, but there’s a savoury undercurrent of
crushed gravel, brown spice, and a faint herbal lift from the partial whole-cluster fermentation. The palate feels youthful in a good way, with bright acidity carrying the wine through a long, textured finish. There’s a nod here to cooler-climate Pinot styles from Oregon, though the Okanagan sunshine still gives generous fruit character. A thoughtful expression of site. Tasted May 2024.
Process: 19% whole bunch cluster inclusion. Aged 9 months in 1, 2 and 3 year old French oak barriques.
