Ex Nihilo XXX Viognier 2020
The 2018 rendition of this wine was so mind-blowing that I included it in my roundup of top BC wines of 2020. I purchased the 2020 vintage during a visit to the winery in the spring of 2021 and wished I’d held onto it for another year or two to see if it could evolve into what I recall the 2018 being. Outside of my past divine experience with the XXX Viognier, the 2020 vintage was enjoyable, sipped upon during Easter dinner. Single-vineyard Viognier sourced from the Naramata Bench in Penticton. Aromas of iris blossom, ripe nectarine, sweet grass, and honey. Medium-bodied on the palate with nice acidity and a palate composition leaning more towards floral than fruit, with a lingering, textural mouthfeel. Aged on the lees for 3.5 months, 20% in French oak. Tasted April 2022.
