Flat Rock Cellars Hexa Pinot Noir 2020
From Flat Rock Cellars’s estate fruit on the Twenty Mile Bench in Ontario, the Hexa Pinot Noir 2020 shows a confident, site-driven profile shaped as much by its cool escarpment origin as by the thoughtful use of 17% whole clusters and restrained new oak. Aromas move from sour cherry and wild strawberry into rose petal, forest floor, and a flicker of white pepper, while the palate stays taut and finely etched, its bright acidity and lightly stem-gripped tannins giving lift rather than weight. The single-block sourcing from 17th Street, planted in 2001, reads clearly in the wine’s precision and continuity from entry to finish. Still youthful, it benefits from a brief decant and should gain aromatic nuance over the next 3–5 years; serve slightly cool alongside duck breast or mushroom dishes to echo its savory edge. Tasted October 2025.
Process: 17% whole cluster fermentation. 10% aged in new French oak barrels (from 5 different coopers).
