Cadgal Piemonte Chardonnay 2023

I’m always happy to see Chardonnay taking a different route, and Cadgal Piemonte Chardonnay 2023 is a lovely example of how well it can work in Piedmont. From Calamandrana in Monferrato Asti, it’s fresh and silky, with ripe pear, yellow apple and a little white pepper on the nose. The palate has plenty of energy, thanks to bright acidity, but it’s rounded out by subtle almond and toast that give the wine some welcome texture. Nothing feels heavy or overly worked; the fruit stays front and centre, with a clean, lightly savoury finish that keeps you coming back for another sip. An approachable, food-friendly Chardonnay with enough personality to make it interesting. Tasted October 2025.

Process: Fermentation in stainless steel. The wine remained on lees until the following spring after the harvest.
